I suppose given that it was an end-of-term school variety show, it shouldn't be surprising just how much today's Christmas performance felt like a school play, even down to getting changed in a classroom!
In front of an audience of at least 200, a variety of talent was shown. The Germans sang some kind of strange song (in German) about sitting on a cactus. I think. There were the usual ethnic dancing and karaoke efforts, and then our own masterpiece...
Entering the hall to cheers and clapping, we proceeded, joined by two of our teachers, to sing a song to the tune of 'The 12 Days of Christmas'. Written in Japanese by our very own Mr. Fun, it consisted mainly of recognisable (but, we hoped, not excessively controversial) stereotypes... And we were in costume, which was the cause of most of the applause. I promise some photos asap: my Hello Kitty Santa suit was one of the less bizarre offerings.
Oh, and some of the other students insisted on posing for photos with us afterwards - finally we've achieved the recognition merited by our celebrity status!
