Fish
What better way to end an all-nighter than with a dawn visit to Tsukiji Central Fish Market... The most striking thing (other than the scale of the place) was the sound of flash-frozen tuna being cut up with bandsaws, just like they were logs. In amongst all the gaijin getting in everyone's way, a serious amount of fish-related business was in progress, with thousands of little flatbed vehicles racing around and occasionally thumping into each other and anyone not quick enough to get out of the way. Rounded off the piscine tourism experience with the best sushi I've ever had. I still maintain that high-quality flesh is preferable to unpleasant-looking and peculiar-tasting internal organs. And as for oysters, well, they just taste of sea...
